R&D&i project – Basque Country
Through our subsidiary in Europe, the company carries out a comprehensive Research, Development, and Innovation project around medicinal cannabis with the Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development – NEIKER, in two phases with the participation of different actors: agro-genetic research with NEIKER, and medical research and pharmaceutical development. The objective in the first stage is the characterization of the 14 genetics of medcann for registration in the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) in order to protect the breeder’s rights of these genetics in Europe, and of future varieties.
In a second phase, and with the engagement of medical research institutes and professionals in the health sector – from this autonomous community and other regions of Spain – we expect the project to include medical research and pharmaceutical development in medical interest several lines currently under assessment, which will allow progress in the acquisition of knowledge about medical cannabis and the generation of evidence on its therapeutic effects

medcann genetics will be also used in a research project led by Canamedics, in collaboration with the technical-scientific team of medcann Pharma, and the IRTA (Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries) and CRAG (Centre for Research in Agricultural Genomics) research centers.
Endorsement
medcann Europe enters the select group of companies authorized by the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products – AEMPS – to grow cannabis for research purposes in Spain.
Likewise, is a beneficiary entity of the “INVESTIGO PROGRAM”, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan from the Spain Government, funded by the European Union-NextGenerationEU.
